Empowering you to emotionally thrive
What are Emotions?
American psychologist Paul Eckman identified six basic emotions universally experienced in all human cultures. The emotions he
identified were happiness, sadness, disgust, fear, surprise, and
anger. These are our everyday emotions, right?
We often shrug away our negative emotions, telling ourselves and others that it is not appropriate. In fact, we judge our emotions and try to distinguish between right and wrong emotions. Over the years, I have realised that unless someone operates from a space of high emotional intelligence, we often fail to understand the root cause of why a certain emotion is showing up in their life. When we understand the root cause of an emotion, it actually helps us resolve any related problems. If we don’t take that step, you would have noticed those emotions arise in our day-to-day interactions.
So you see, nature actually had a reason for infusing emotions into our existence. It wanted us to navigate life from our heart and not from our head.

What is Emotional Well-Being?
I recall my personal trainer telling me more than a year ago that the number of fitness centres in Bengaluru has been increasing at a rapid rate to keep pace with the growing enrollments. India. While physical health has taken centre stage in many people’s lives, awareness of emotional health is still in its early stages in India.
Proof of increasing awareness of emotional health can be seen in news articles, discussion forums, and LinkedIn posts that discuss the need for a work culture that warmly embraces humans and their emotional needs. However, emotional well-being is yet to enter our homes more holistically. The spotlight also needs to be on the emotional space we hold for ourselves as individuals and for our family members. We still have a long way to go in creating an emotionally healthy personal and professional space.
Emotional well-being, in my opinion, is our ability to create and maintain an emotionally healthy personal and professional life. A good indicator of our emotional health is the emotional balance we can sustain throughout our everyday lives.
When you are emotionally healthy, you are more self-aware, manage your emotions, rather than the other way around, and are more present in the moment.
