Have you noticed during your interactions with younger kids, especially the inquisitive ones? They ask you one curious question after another, and through deduction, they exclaim, ‘Oh, that’s why you’re excited!’ It’s a delightful journey of exploration and understanding.

Likewise, as a coach, curiosity lies at the core of my interactions with clients, helping them get to the root of the problem.

Not many of us ask ourselves enough questions to arrive at solutions.

This New Year, how about we all ask our inner self enough questions about the areas that need change/growth or even love?

I am not a Hindi movie fan. I have nothing against the Hindi film industry; it’s not my type. However, of late, some of the movies have caught my attention for various reasons, one of which is ‘driving home a positive message’ for all of us.

One such movie is Mr.&Mrs.Mahi. While the male lead portrays the character of a ‘sports coach,’ I found one interesting piece of advice he gave to the female lead (a cricketer) at the end of the movie—something that strongly resonated with me.

When the cricketer had to decide at a crucial juncture, instead of telling her what to do, the coach asked her to have faith in herself and do what she felt right in her shoes without thinking about what others had to say.

This is precisely my intention when I partner as a coach with every client, i.e., to offer an unbiased space that allows individuals to tap into their limitless potential and have all the answers to their life’s questions.

My curiosity about plants led me to a study conducted by professors at Tel Aviv University. The study demonstrates that plants make noise when they are stressed. It’s not surprising, then, that the human body also makes sounds when under stress—whether it’s a faster heartbeat, a headache, or other subtle signals.

As a coach, I often encourage my clients to pay attention to their bodies’ signals when they think or feel a certain way. These signals are nature’s way of guiding and protecting us. We just need to connect with ourselves and decipher what our bodies are trying to communicate. Ideally, I believe that being connected to ourselves should be second nature.

Real estate developers have creative ways to market the space an individual/family would get from occupying the homes they build.

Families diligently plan for the required space, considering the number of family members, workspace, and future requirements.

How about we take this analogy and apply it to the mental space we give for ourselves and our near and dear ones, keeping our current and future health cum relationship/s in mind?

Here are some questions to ask yourself in that direction: Do you

1. give yourself daily time to sit down and not think of anything for 15 minutes.

2. give your family members undivided mental attention every week, if not daily.

3. allow yourself to get bored intellectually regularly.

4. disengage from gadgets for a certain number of hours daily.

My chance encounter with an Armadillo virtually woke up my coaching antennas. Why, you ask? This animal has poor eyesight and hearing abilities; however, it can smell up to 20 cm underground and thrives well in its VUCA world. What’s the connection with coaching?

As human beings, in addition to our five senses, we are endowed with a sixth sense – intuition, which can direct our lives if we allow it to. Clients realise during the coaching sessions that all the while, their gut was telling them something that their mind or senses couldn’t apprehend.

We are all endowed with this marvellous gift of intuition. The more we tap into it, the more effectively we can navigate towards solutions in our lives.

Numbers aren’t my cup of tea. Looking back at my early career days, I distinctly remember the discomfort I felt when faced with mathematical tasks. While I couldn’t pinpoint that emotion then, I recognised that math wasn’t my strength.

As a life coach now, I’ve come to understand that this discomfort was steering me away from jobs that involved calculations and towards a career that aligned with my natural strengths, such as communication and emotions. I wish I had the awareness to explore my feelings deeper, for my career switch would have happened earlier, but as they say, ‘it is all about the journey’.

Through coaching, I’ve learned that it’s crucial to delve into the underlying emotions when something feels off. Our internal compass guides us through emotions and energy.
